We Are Crew, Not Passengers

We've reimagined traditional student councils to create an inclusive environment where every student can thrive.

Through our Crew program, leadership opportunities extend beyond popularity votes, ensuring that each student has a chance to shine.

Here's how we foster leadership at every level:

Committee Involvement

6th graders have the opportunity to serve on various committees, including safety patrol, event organization, and community outreach. By choosing committees aligned with their interests, students gain practical leadership experience while making meaningful contributions to our school community.

Homeroom Representatives

Each class will have 6th-grade homeroom representatives who will act as liaisons between students and teachers. They assist with classroom activities, lead monthly Flight Crew sessions, and spearhead projects that promote kindness and community engagement.

End-of-Year Culmination

At the end of the school year, 6th graders participate in a culmination event—Crew Adventure Week. This week-long celebration honors their achievements and reinforces our core values through fun activities and service projects.

6th Grade Crew Service Committees

Safety Patrol

These students will help escort students to their cars during afternoon carpool. They will need to be picked up after 3:20 on the days they are assigned. We will train these students on Friday the 29th during the school day. A schedule for participation will be sent home at that time. Safety Patrol will begin the week of October 2nd.

Recycling

These students will need to be at school no later than 8:10. They will visit classrooms to collect recycling and deliver it to our recycling bin in the teacher parking lot.

Leadership Breakfast

These students will need to be at school by 7:45 on the days of the Leadership Breakfasts they are assigned to. They will set up the gym, help serve food, and clean up afterwards. The first Leadership Breakfast is Thursday, September 28th.

Halloween Parade

*Please note, these students were originally assigned to the Fall Festival, but we have changed their assignment based on the need to have help at the parade.
These students will help organize and supervise the school Halloween parade during the school day.

Book Fair

These students will help set up one of the three Book Fairs they are assigned to during the school day.

Birthday Table

These students will help set up and take down the Birthday Table on the month they are assigned to during the school day.

6th Grade Crew Adventure Week

Crew Adventure Week at Leadership Learning Academy is an exhilarating and enriching experience designed to bring our core values to life through a series of dynamic and engaging activities.

Tailored specifically for our 6th graders, this week-long journey marks a significant milestone in their educational path, emphasizing leadership, teamwork, and personal growth. Through a blend of adventure, challenges, and community service projects, students are encouraged to apply the principles of integrity, respect, resilience, and community in real-world settings.

This unique program not only reinforces the values we hold dear but also prepares our students for the next steps in their academic and personal lives, fostering a sense of accomplishment and readiness to make a positive impact in the world. Crew Adventure Week is a testament to our commitment to nurturing well-rounded leaders who are equipped to face the future with confidence and compassion.

Here is an example of what our 6th Grade Crew Adventure Week looks like:

Students will travel by bus to Logan and Utah State University where our Flyers will show their resilience by participating in a leadership course led by USU students which involves wall/rock climbing, and team building activities in an outdoor setting. They will also enjoy lunch in the town of Logan before heading back to school.

How does our resiliency day teach students to make the world a better place?

Our students will not be afraid to try hard things. They will get out of their comfort zone, problem solve, and not give up. They will persist with new ideas that can change the world in big and small ways.

A day will be spent serving the elderly in our own community. We will visit Apple Retirement Village and have the students entertain the residents with prepared acts of talent. They will then spend time with residents in small groups. Each student will have questions prepared to ask their resident so they can learn about what life was like when they were in sixth grade. They will follow up by reading the resident a short story. Our contact at the village said nothing brings the residents greater joy than being able to share stories of their youth. We know our Flyers will feel the joy that comes with spending time with someone who may be lonely.

Following the visit there we will head to Grey Hawk Park for a picnic lunch and outdoor community building games. We will leave this community park nicer than we found it by doing a quick clean up before we head back to the school.

How does our community day teach students to make the world a better place?

Our students will find the joy that comes with helping others and using their talents to spread happiness. They will learn that acts of service can be rewarding not only to the recipient, but to the giver as well. They will learn that their community is comprised of many who are in need and that they can help fill that need with acts of service and kindness.

Nothing tests your integrity like a day of fun! Our Flyers will travel to Crystal Hot Springs for fun, sun, and water games. Our students will be challenged with tasks of integrity throughout the fun experience. Lunch will be enjoyed either on site or at a local restaurant.

How does our integrity day teach students to make the world a better place?

As our students enter the world of junior high and beyond they will increasingly have their integrity tested. This day will provide just the right amount of independence for our Flyers to be making choices throughout the day that will call on them to show integrity. They will see that when they act with integrity the day for them and others is a more peaceful, productive, and happy one.

The core value of respect will be addressed in two different ways on this day. First, we will travel to Timpanogos Cave where a guided hike and tour will challenge our Flyers to respect the natural world. After returning to school we will meet again that evening. Each student will return dressed in their nicest clothes to enjoy a formal dinner at a fine dining restaurant. The children will be using the core value of respect in this setting. Manners for such an event will be pre-taught at school by a manners expert. Respect will also be the focus as they engage with each other for conversation and fun in a formal and public place.

How does our respect day teach students to make the world a better place?

Our students will have an appreciation for our natural world and its resources. They will understand the responsibility each of us have to respect and take care of our planet.
Our students will practice respect in a formal setting with peers, adults, and restaurant staff. They will learn that showing good manners and respect to those around them puts happiness and positivity in their small corner of the world.

The school pays the way for all students to spend an exciting day at Lagoon with their friends. Each one will have many opportunities to practice the Flyer Creed every step of the way. We have no doubt they will make us proud.
