Policies & Handbooks

Dear parents, teachers, and employees:

In 1986, Congress passed the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA). AHERA is a provision of the Toxic Substances Control Act. It requires that local education agencies (LEA) such as Leadership Learning Academy inspect for asbestos-containing building materials, prepare and maintain up-to-date AHERA Management Plans, and notify occupants of the plan on a yearly basis. All of this in an effort to prevent the exposure of asbestos to the occupants of our school buildings.

Our architects and builders have certified that no asbestos containing materials were used in the construction of Leadership Learning Academy’s buildings; therefore, noasbestos containing materials were identified. We continue to be alert to ensure that suspected asbestos-containing materials do not pose a hazard to our students and staff.

Leadership Learning Academy’s AHERA Management Plan is available for review in the main office and has been submitted to the Utah Department of Environmental Quality/Division of Air Quality.

Leadership Learning Academy is committed to making https://llacharter.org compliant with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA). At this time we recognize that not all areas of our website may be ADA compliant. We are currently in the process of enhancing website content to be compliant with the W3C Level Two guidelines.

Below are policies and procedures developed and approved by the Leadership Learning Academy Governing Board of Directors and administration.

Leadership Learning Academy was approved by the Utah State Charter School Board and the Utah State Board of Education in February 2012. The Charter Application describes LLA’s unique method of instruction and the vision of the school. Please note, the policies and bylaws contained in LLA’s original charter application are subject to change by the governing board. To view the school’s current policies, go to the Policies & Handbooks page.

In the state of Utah, monies from school trust lands are distributed to every public school through the School LAND Trust Program. Leadership Learning Academy has a School LAND Trust Committee whose responsibilities include creating and approving the School LAND Trust Plan each year which identify an academic need and a proposed solution using the annual funds. The committee is an advisory body that may be comprised of parents, teachers, and administrators. All School LAND Trust Committee actions and plans are overseen and approved by the Governing Board of Directors. School LAND Trust Committee members are willing volunteers who care about the success of students and overall school improvement and Leadership Learning Academy is grateful for their time and dedication.

School LAND Trust Committee meetings are open to the public.  Agendas are posted below seven (7) days in advance.  The committee has adopted a LAND Trust Council Rules of Order and Procedure.  Please visit the School LAND Trust website to view current and past plans of Leadership Learning Academy and additional information.

The Leadership Learning Academy Board of Directors has adopted a Council Membership and Election Procedures.

Child Find Notice

Leadership Learning Academy’s Special Education Department is attempting to identify all children with disabilities who are currently enrolled at the school.

If a child is having significant difficulty with vision, hearing, speech and/or behavior or is experiencing slow development atypical for his/her age, physical impairments or learning difficulty then he/she may be a child with a disability.  Disabilities that could interfere with education include: autism, deaf-blindness, deafness, emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, intellectual disabilities, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, specific learning disabilities, communication disorders, traumatic brain injury and visual impairment.  Federal law mandates the provision of free educational programs and/or services for such persons.

If you know of a current LLA student who might qualify for Special Education services, including a student suspected of having a disability even though he/she is advancing from grade to grade, please contact LLA’s Special Education Department by email.

Leadership Learning Academy participates in the Utah Student Data Privacy Alliance (USPA).  The USPA is a collaboration of the Utah State Board of Education and Local Education Agencies that share common concerns around student privacy. The goal of the USPA is to set standards of both practice and expectations around student privacy such that all parties involved have a common understanding of expectations.
